Indonesia's Creative Economy Ministry Emphasizes Ethical Use of AI in Creative Industry

JAKARTA — Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the global creative industry, sparking both excitement and concern among creative professionals. Indonesian Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Teuku Rifky Harsya, has acknowledged these anxieties, affirming that it's natural for creative workers to feel uneasy amid the rise of AI.

In a recent discussion with Prof. Hammam Riza and the team from the Collaborative Research Industry Innovation AI Indonesia (KORIKA), Teuku Rifky shared a common understanding: AI is not here to replace human creativity, but rather to expand creative space and strengthen the ecosystem of the creative economy.

"We at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (@ekraf.ri) will continue to support creative professionals to ensure this technology truly works in their favor—not only in terms of efficiency but also in ethics, originality, and the welfare of creators," said Rifky through his official Instagram account, @teukuriefky.

He further noted the shared enthusiasm between KORIKA and the Ministry in pushing for innovation and the downstream application of technology within the creative industry sector.

“We must not remain passive spectators in the technological revolution. Indonesian creativity must take center stage, with AI as a tool—not a threat,” he asserted.

This statement signals the Ministry’s commitment to developing inclusive and sustainable AI policies that prioritize human-centric values in Indonesia’s growing creative economy.
