Industry Leader Highlights AI’s Transformative Role in Education Session with UC Online Learning
February 5, 2025 – Jakarta
Contributing to the nation’s evolving technology landscape remains a driving passion for many leaders in Indonesia’s innovation ecosystem. On February 5, 2025, this passion was brought to the virtual classroom as a distinguished industry speaker was invited to share insights with students of the University of Ciputra @uc_onlinelearning program. The event featured an engaging presentation on “The Role of AI in Increasing Productivity and Work Quality,” delivered to an audience of undergraduate and graduate students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds.
The session began with an overview of recent global surveys, highlighting key trends in AI adoption across Indonesia as of 2024. This set the stage for a foundational introduction to artificial intelligence and its key subsets, providing students with a shared vocabulary and conceptual understanding as they prepare for careers in an AI-driven future.
To bridge theory and practice, the speaker explored the evolution of AI within the industrial landscape, referencing Gartner’s AI Opportunity Radar and showcasing a variety of global use cases. Ethical concerns were also addressed, including the growing impact of deepfakes and other potentially harmful applications of AI technology. These challenges were examined through the People, Process, and Technology framework—a model that encourages holistic thinking and categorization of future risks and opportunities.
The presentation concluded with a forward-looking reflection on Indonesia’s AI journey, particularly the government's progress under President Joko Widodo’s administration. Highlights included the launch of the National AI Strategy (Stranas KA) in 2020, officiated by then–Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, and the formation of KORIKA (@korika_id), initiated by BPPT to lead AI orchestration efforts across the nation.
Looking ahead, the speaker emphasized the continuity of this momentum under the leadership of President Prabowo. Notable developments include the strategic restructuring of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics—now renamed to reflect its digital-first orientation, Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi)—as well as the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, which plays a central role in developing the skilled human capital necessary for Indonesia’s AI transformation.
The session reflected the speaker’s personal commitment to using technology as a tool to enrich lives, and offered students valuable insights into how AI is reshaping both the workplace and the national agenda.
